Meet the musicians

Corey Averill

Cello

Corey is the founder of Duo Con Brio and a talented cellist who received his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Portland State University. He has received several awards for his musical abilities, including a full scholarship to the Tanglewood Music Festival and a scholarship to the Congress of Strings. In 1986/1987, he became the first freshman ever to win the Oregon State Solo Contest. In 2008-2009, he received the Mary V. Dodge Award for Outstanding Music in the Schools.

Throughout his career, Corey has had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City, participate in All-State/All-Northwest Orchestras, and tour 12 different countries with the Portland Youth Philharmonic. He has also made solo appearances with the Vancouver Symphony, Clark College Orchestra, and Marylhurst Symphony.

In addition to his performance career, Corey has worked as a music director at the Portland Waldorf School since 1998 and has served as adjunct faculty at Clark College since 1991. He also maintains a private cello studio. He has been a member of several orchestras, including the Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra, Eugene Symphony, Linfield Chamber Orchestra, and Portland Opera Orchestra. Corey has studied with teachers Stephanie McDougal and Hamilton Cheifetz and has participated in masterclasses with Carter Brey and Yo Yo Ma.

James McLennan

Violin, Viola, Trombone, Trumpet, Guitar, & Music Arranger

Jim holds Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Oregon in violin and trombone, a Master of Music degree in violin from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Portland State University. Prior to his work in Portland, Jim worked as a studio musician in Hollywood and was Assistant Conductor of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, and Principle Conductor of the PYCO Orchestra. Jim currently is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Portland Opera as well as Concertmaster of numerous Broadway Across America shows at Portland's Keller Auditorium. You may have seen him perform in productions such as Chicago, The Book of Mormon, Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, South Pacific, Newsies, Kinky Boots, The Lion King, Fiddler on the Roof, Beauty and the Beast, Zelda, Symphony of the Goddesses and many others.

Dr. Tatiana Kolchanova, violinist, earned her Ph.D. from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia. Tatiana has 34 years of performing experience, and 25 years of teaching experience.  Beginning in 1983, she toured the world as a violinist, including performances at Carnegie Hall under Zubin Mehta and collaborative performances with Jessy Norman in France, Italy, Lebanon and Germany.  From 1996-2006 she taught at the Moscow Conservatory, and was first violinist of the Moscow String Quartet for 10 years.  A sought-after adjudicator for International Competitions, currently Tatiana is founder & director and principal teacher of Music & Arts Academy in Camas, WA.

Irene Gadeholt

Violin

Violinist Irene Gadeholt is a versatile musician with an extensive array of accomplishments in Oregon music circles. She has performed many seasons as a core member of the Oregon Symphony and west Coast chamber Orchestra. In 2018 Irene was appointed Associate Concertmaster of the Newport Symphony. She also regularly performs with Portland Opera and OBT; and has participated in statewide festivals, including Peter Britt, Coos Bay, and Sunriver. Tours and special events include Pavarotti, Bocelli, Phantom of the Opera, Smokey RObinson, Johnny Mathis, The Who, and The Eagles. As a chamber musician she is a founding and current member of the Raphael Spiro String Quartet and is also an active member of Chehalem quartet and Element quartet. She hold a BA in Music Performance from PSU and studied violin with Raphael Spiro and Michael Foxman, with chamber music coaching from Michael Foxman, the Kronos Quartet, and the Floristan Trio. Having formerly been concertmaster and soloist with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Irene enjoys mentoring new generations of aspiring musicians through her private teaching studio.

Janet George

Violin

Janet holds a B.A. in Arts and Communication, as well as Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from University of Arizona. Janet is currently the Orchestra Manager of the Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra where she performs as the Assistant Principle 2nd Violinist. Prior to her work with the OBT organization, Janet was a violinist in the Tuscon Symphony. She has also performed in the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Opera, the Cascade Music Festival, and is a freelance violinist in the Portland area.

Hae-Jin Kim

Violin

Hae-Jin holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin from Eastman School of Music. She is the founding member of the Artisan String Quartet and Pacifica Trio, and currently performs as a violinist in the Portland Opera and Oregon Ballet Theater orchestras. Prior to her work in Portland, Hae-Jin performed in the Music Academy of the West, the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, and the Idylwild School of Music Summer Festival. Hae-Jin is a dedicated violin instructor in the Portland area training the future musicians of tomorrow.

Jane Day

Cello

Jane holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Portland and is a Suzuki trained teacher. She is a member of both the Portland Opera and Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestras, has an active private cello studio, and is currently on the faculty at the Portland Community Music Center.
